It’s All Good Radio Show January 25 2018

On this week’s show we talk about Debbie’s visit to Great Parks Community Centre in Paignton for their Open Day in which she found out about two new community led projects: Grow Gap – an intergenerational gardening group and Rising Moments which supports women and their families who have been affected by abuse who live in and around Torbay.

We move on to talk about our own litter picking which we did on Foxhole Road and Colley End Road and share news of Wayne Dixon and Koda, Keep Britain Tidy Litter Ambassador who has restarted his journey around the coastline of UK and joined Turn The Tide Portishead for their first community beach clean.

We talk about initiatives to reduce our use of plastic which are now being picked up by mainstream news and programmes including the One Show’s visit to Plastic Free Penzance, the BBC News Devon reporting of the scheme to turn washed up plastic into kayaks and nationwide coverage of the Refill campaign and we encourage the people of Devon to get involved in Refill Devon.  We finish our talk on plastic by highlighting the social enterprise Ocean Sole who turn discarded flip flops into act and functional products to promote our oceans.

Local news next: We share the exciting news of the chance to play the main stage at Torbay’s music festival Grinigog which returns for a second year. We then go onto highlight the volunteer opportunity of the week at Chelston Action Group who are looking for a volunteer with an interest in crafts and youth work as well as talking about the Timebanking launch on 1st February at the Community Development Trust lounge in Fleet Walk, Torquay.

Our focus then shifts to talking about Young Carers Awareness Day – a UK wide day of recognition for the UK’s 700,000 young carers and as part of our regular feature on – the interactive community map, we highlight Unite Carers Mid -Devon who provide respite activities to ease the pressure of caring for parents or siblings.

As part of their Christmas competition Triodos Bank asked their followers and readers to tell them their top tips for a green life. They were looking for small acts that, when combined, can create a huge positive impact on the world. We share with listeners some of these top tips which they too can try.

And finally we enjoy a reflection on personal transformation by Rise Like Air blog which takes its inspiration this week from 2015 Women Spirit Sourcebook, Patric Wynn “As each woman realises her power she transforms the world.”
