In this week’s show we continue our regular feature of Travels Around The Bay and share with listeners our experiences of walking the South West Coast Path from Brixham to Kingswear and from Babbacombe to Shaldon.
Our volunteer opportunity of the week comes via Torbay Recovery Information Project (TRIP) which offers peer support, advice and companionship in a safe and friendly environment and who are looking for help from people with finance and business skills.
We welcome news from Sir David Attenborough that there are signs of hope that a shift amongst people in general about the concern there should be for the natural world and we discuss the new law in Kenya which bans anyone from manufacturing, selling or even carrying a plastic bag.
We go onto discuss Organic September, the month long campaign from the Soil Association which provides a wealth of information and knowledge on the benefits of eating organic. We talk about our own choice to eat organic foods as much as possible and news about the Food for Life Better Care project which works to give older people in care settings, hospital and in their own homes more support to eat and enjoy good food.
We talk about the 21 year old filmmaker Julia Barnes who has created Sea of Life Movie after she felt called to take action to protect and preserve the Earth and we ask listeners to reflect on what is the biggest thing they can do and to play their part in creating a world that’s beautiful for all species.
We then share the good news that Californian scientists have declared that a fossil fuel phase out is achievable that would contain climate change, deliver energy entirely from wind, water and sunlight to 139 nations and save up to 7 million lives each year. They said it would also create a net gain of 24 million long term jobs, all by 2050, and at the same time limit global warning to 1.5C or less.
