Show Highlights August 10 2017

We start today’s show with our popular feature of Travels Round The Bay where we share an experience we have had in the week. This week we talk about our walk from Paignton to Babbacombe along the South West Coastal Path.

We then go onto share the good news about the re-opening of Fort Apache Playground for young people in Torquay and talk about opportunities for people to volunteer as a Torbay Culture Host for two events in Torbay in September. And our volunteer opportunity of the day comes courtesy of the Youth Genesis Trust who work with young people in the community.

Today’s conscious choices comes on the back of some pretty alarming news that a million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and the number will jump another 20% by 2021 and we encourage listeners to refuse single use bottles and switch to reusable bottles and filter water.  We then go onto talk about the Great British Beach Clean from 15th to 18th September across the UK.

Keeping on the plastics theme, we share the good news about the reduction of single use bags being used and the plans of Costa Rica to ban all single use plastics by 2021.

In his section “Things to ponder about” David goes onto discuss the Global Footprint Network and provides suggestions on how to avoid overwhelm from climate news through taking positive and meaningful daily steps to review your habits and purchases.

And to mark International Dog Assistance Week, we share the story of Megan Rose Taylor and Ruby The Superdog and Megan tells us how Ruby continues to support her in her daily life.
