My Birthday Pledge – To spend the next year working for free for Society

Compassion Quote

I can’t put my finger on exactly when it happened but something awoke inside me to say, “I want to work for Society.”

And the idea won’t let me go.  I have to find a way.

Spiritual practices call this wanting to “serve”.  There is definitely an element to that in how I feel, but on a more basic level – I see such need all around me and I can’t bear to see people suffer.

What stops me from doing this?  Nothing.  Apart from not knowing how I will pay my rent and electricity, food and travel costs.

And that distraction of earning money dispels expansion.  Not just my expansion, but the expansion of so many people I have yet to meet but could help if I’m free of my own need to earn money.

For the past two years I’ve worked in the community as an independent career and employment coach – it’s been the most challenging thing I’ve ever done – and also the most rewarding.  I’ve met people in crisis, bewildered, overwhelmed – unable to function, without the skills or confidence to move forward.

Thanks to last week’s budget and 12 billion pounds of benefit cuts there will be many more.

The way I look at it is we are all human beings and now is the time we need to be there to help those who will suffer.

The Solution: For my part I want to give people free career coaching and a whole array of resources so they don’t suffer alone.

All across the country, people are helping others. I see it.  But I also see community projects which never get off the ground because the organisers are too busy helping people to have the time to find the appropriate funding and write lengthy funding bids to “prove” their worth.

The Solution: I want to give my time for free to source the appropriate funding, write the bids and source the right people so valuable projects get started.

Across the world, people are changing lives for the better but we don’t hear about it in the mainstream media.  In September 2012, I set up It’s All Good Radio Show to shift the focus from negative reporting to positive broadcasting and action, but I am just one person, in a sea of noise and distraction, so my voice alone isn’t enough against the weight of the mainstream.

The Solution: I want to train people for free to become local broadcasters so they can have their own radio show shouting about the good things in their local area that are happening and encouraging people to get involved.

I’ve spent many hours thinking this all this through and I truly believe these three solutions will do so much to help us ALL

So I need your help.

Will you consider donating to the Birthday Pledge Freedom Fund please?

The Freedom Fund is a space where money is given freely and from the heart so I can carry out all these actions and help as many people as I can in the coming year.

Will you become one of my Freedom Funders?

A huge thank you on behalf of all the people I have yet to help.

If you don’t have money to donate, I fully understand. We live a day to day existence ourselves, however if you can support through sharing or if you want to get involved in any way by offering your own skills then that would be wonderful.
